principal

Dr. Nimrah Marquez was born and raised in Valencia County, specifically in Bosque Farms, where she lived in Bosque Farms, Los Lunas, and Belen. She attended Los Lunas schools. After graduating from high school, Dr. Marquez enrolled at UNM with the intention of pursuing a degree in the medical field. However, after two years, she realized that the medical field wasn’t the right path for her, so she switched to education.

Dr. Marquez taught at Katherine Gallegos Elementary and Ann Parish Elementary for a total of 12 years. During this period, she completed her master’s degree in educational leadership and policy studies through UTA.

After her time at Ann Parish, Dr. Marquez took on the role of assistant principal at Sarracino Middle School in Socorro. She also served as the principal overseeing the middle and elementary schools in Laguna, NM. In 2022, she had the opportunity to work once again in Los Lunas as a Learning Innovation Coach at Los Lunas High School. In May of 2023, she earned a Ph.D. in education with a concentration in organizational leadership. In addition to her career in education, Dr. Marquez has taught dance and Jazzercise for a local studio for the past 11 years.

Dr. Marquez also raised two amazing humans whom she will forever refer to as her babies, even though they are 24 and 26!

Los Lunas Middle Schools Assistant Principal

I was raised in Laguna Pueblo and attended the University of New Mexico where I received a BA in History. I then attended Arizona State University for graduate school with the intention of becoming a university professor. My first secondary teaching job was at the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community as a Jr. High Native Studies teacher. I fell in love with the students and it changed my career path.

I returned home to raise my three children and began to teach special education, becoming certified in math, at Laguna Middle School. I spent a total of 22 years in the classroom, teaching all levels of math 6-12, New Mexico History, U.S. History, APUSH, APGOV, Digital Storytelling and Yearbook. My last 8 years of classroom teaching were at my alma mater, Laguna Acoma High School. I completed the New Mexico Public Education Department Administrator Leadership Development program in Spring 2020. Prior to joining the administrative team at Los Lunas Middle School, I served for two years as the Student Services Director at the Laguna Department of Education.
